Ooraga Perumal Kundrathur was in a dilapidated condition and has been resurrected recently. The old Rajagopuram had fallen off to less than half its height and has been renovated and rebuilt recently.

King Kulothunga could not get cured of spell even after visiting many temples.  Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream as an old man and asked him to visit the Ooraga Perumal Temple at Kancheepuram where he worshiped and got relieved of the spell. As a mark of his gratitude he built Ooraga Perumal Kundrathur temple. While constructing Lord Vishnu granted darshan to him as Tirupati Venkatachalapathy. He then decided to install the idol as a replica of Tirupati Venkatachalapathy in his standing form.

Ooraga Perumal Kundrathur is right on the main road leading to the Kundarthur Murugan temple before the hill.
