Trisoolanadar Trisoolam is a beautiful temple located in between 4 hills. The entrance is from the east through a gateway. The large outer Prakaram has the Balippedam with A nice carving of Lord Ganesha before it, flagstaff and a Nandi. At the entrance to the inner Prakaram are Ganesha, Anjaneya and Ayyappa on either sides. The east facing lord and the south facing goddess can be seen from the same spot. The inner Prakaram houses most of the other deities mentioned above. In the usual place where Ganesha shrine is found in the southwest corner is Srinivasa Perumal. The Vimaanam is in the form of a Gajaprastham (back of a reclining elephant).

History

Trisoolanadar Trisoolam has stone inscriptions dating abck to the period of Kulothunga Chola I (1070 – 1120) indicating that it could have been constructed then by him or before. The ancient name of the place is mentioned as Pallavapuramaana Vanavan Madevi Chaturvedimangalam, Thiruneetru Chozhanallur, Surathur, Thiruchuram, Brahmapuri and Thirisoolam.

Legend

The Shivalingam at Trisoolanadar Trisoolam is believed to have been installed and worshiped by Lord Brahma who also created the well here called Brahma Theertham. The 4 surrounding hills are believed to represent the 4 Vedas.

Directions

Trisoolanadar Trisoolam is located in Trisoolam which is opposite the Chennai Airport. After the Trisoolam Railway Station while going from Guindy take a right and cross the railway line over the level crossing, take a right and then a left, follow the main road and you will reach the temple’s entrance arch on your right. The level crossing can be closed for long durations at peak hours.
