King Dasaratha (Lord Rama’s father) is said to have presented himself before Saneeswara (Saturn) when the latter was on a planetary movement which could harm Earth. Pleased with his valor, Saneeswara is said to have asked Dasaratha to visit Ramanathaswamy Thirunaraiyur temple, have a bath at the holy tank and pray to him. Lord Saneeswara, unlike any other temple, is seen with his entire family here at Ramanathaswamy Thirunaraiyur.
