Thirugnanasambandar (7th Century CE) has rendered Thevaram hymns here at Patteeswaram.
‘Patti’, the daughter of the Holy Cow Kamadhenu is believed to have worshiped here at Patteeswaram and hence the name of the Lord is Patteeswarar. Sage Viswamitra worshiped here and received the Brahmarishi title. Lord Rama is said to have worshiped here and also created the theertham with an arrow. Shiva’s consort Parvati is believed to have performed penance here. The lord is believed to have instructed the 5 Nandi’s here to move aside a bit so that he could have the pleasure of seeing Thirugnanasambandar coming in.
