Thirupalaithurai, Papanasam is an ancient and important temple in this circuit. The temple has a 5 tier Rajagopuram at the entrance in the east followed by a 3 tiered Gopuram to the inner Prakaram. A conical 36 ft tall granary constructed by the Nayak Rulers between 1600 and 1634 CE is found here. This granary capable of holding about 775000 liters of content indicates the volume of grain contributions to the Thirupalaithurai temple in ancient times. But it is today abandoned.
