Agastheeswarar Sholavaram Temple goes back to the ancient Chola Period. It is an east facing temple that was without compound walls around when we visited around 2013. The temple has been safeguarded, renovated and is looking beautiful during our subsequent in 2018. There is a large temple pond behind in the west of the temple and there is a small gate leading to it. A Shivalingam and Nandi is kept outside the Goddess shrine, maybe from the olden days.
Holy Water – Temple Pond
Sacred Tree – Vilwam (Aegle marmelos)
Vimanam – Gajaprashta Vimaanam
Agastheeswarar Sholavaram is an ancient temple that could have been built during the Chola Period as is evident from the architecture style of the Vimaanam.
A cow was found shedding milk in an ant hill and upon digging the Shiva Lingam was found and the Agastheeswarar Sholavaram temple was built. The legend of Sage Agastya installing and worshiping the Lingam is also associated with Agastheeswarar Sholavaram.
