Sri Renganathar Devadanam is said to have been built 1000 years back by a Chalukya King.
Legend has it that the lord is resting here at Sri Renganathar Devadanam after getting tired by giving away the grains in the measuring vessel to feed the world during the harvest season. This area was gifted (danam) to Devas by Indhra and so is called Devadanam.
