Sri Renganathar Devadanam is an east facing temple. A newly built 3 tier entrance gopuram welcomes you. The idol is a Sudhai (lime and plaster) sculpture made of many Salagrama stones which are considered very sacred for worship. The Lord has a perfectly chiseled face with flaring nostrils. The sanctum sanctorum is very small, just enough to accommodate the Perumal, the utsava idols and the priest. Since the idol is a Sudhai sculpture, no ablution is being performed and only herbal oil (Thailakappu) is being applied to it once a year. The Utsava idol takes on the ablution ritual. The lord in reclining posture measures 18 ft long with a measuring vessel (Padi) as his pillow with his right hand placed over it, reclining on the bed of Aadhi Seshan the five headed snake as umbrella. Adhisesha forms a 5.5 feet high 3 layer bed to him. Brahma is seen on a lotus coming out from the navel of the Lord. Sridevi and Bhoodevi are present near his feet. Sage Thumburu and Anjaneya are present around him praying.
