Thirupatrurai is a small and beautiful east facing temple with a 3 tier Rajagopuram situated between the Kollidam and Cauvery rivers.
Holy Water (Theertham) – Kollidam River
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Vilwam (Aegle marmelos)
Thirugnanasambandar (7th century CE) has rendered Thevaram Hymns here at Thirupatrurai. Stone inscriptions mention Thirupatrurai temple as ‘Kollidathenkarai Naattu Brahmadesamana Uthamaseevi Chaturvedimangala Thirupatrurai’, and the lord as Thirupatrurai Mahadevar.
Sage Markandeya and Surya are believed to have worshiped the Lord here at Thirupatrurai.
Thirupatrurai is about 9 kilometers east of Thiruvanaikaval. After crossing the Cauvery from Thiruchirapalli take a right onto the Kallanai road and reach Panayapuram where you take a left and drive further to reach the temple on the banks of the Kollidam River.
None locally. Mannachanallur has some snack and tea shops but otherwise closest recommended are Srirengam or Thiruchirapalli.
