Somanathaswamy Mahendrawadi is a recently renovated, but totally unprotected temple with no walls. The Brahmanan street of this village is still present with a very ancient house system, representing the construction skills of Pallavas. We found the children of the adjoining school using the temple area as an urinal! There is a large but completely misused temple pond to the north of the temple.

Somanathaswamy Mahendrawadi could have some connections with the Pallava King Mahendra Verman I (600-630 CE) as Mahendrawadi was an important town in those days.
