Atheswarar Avanipur is a small east facing temple with a newly constructed 5 tier Rajagopuram at the eastern entrance. The Lingam is long and slender and the Nandi facing him is very large in size. The interesting feature here is that the Navagrahas are distributed with separate shrines around the temple facing their respective directions. There is a small temple pond opposite the temple. A small and ancient Vinayaka temple is just east of Atheswarar Avanipur. There are also a few Jain idols kept in the Vinayaka temple campus.

Atheswarar Avanipur is about 10 kilometers east of Pallipakkam in the Chennai to Thiruchirapalli Highway. Pallipakkam is 10 kilometers after crossing Thozhupedu railway bridge on the way to Tindivanam. If you are coming from Tindivanam side take a right at Melpattai which is 5 kilometers after crossing Tindivanam towards Chennai and enter the Avanipur Road to reach Atheswarar Avanipur. On the way you can also visit the Jambunadaswami Kizhsevur temple.
None locally. Closest for food is Tindivanam and the hotels on the highway. Ganesh Bhavan in Acharapakkam before Thozhupedu is a good place for food.
