Tindirineeswarar Tindivanam is an ancient temple with tall 7 tier Rajagopuram on the east. The Shivalingam is large. The temple is said to have been visited (unconfirmed) by Appar, Sundarar, Manickavasagar, Thirugnanasambandar and Arunagirinathar. There is a large temple tank in front of the temple.

History

Tindirineeswarar Tindivanam dates back to the Chola Period.

Legend

The whole area was once a Tamarind forest (Thindri Vanam in Sanskrit) and hence the name of the town Tindivanam. There is unconfirmed information of Vyasa having built the Rajagopuram at Tindirineeswarar Tindivanam. Several ancient Rishis including Valmiki, Vyasa, Dhindi, Killi, Killali are believed to have prayed here at Tindirineeswarar Tindivanam.
