Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal Tindivanam is said to be connected with the Kanchi Temples. Brahma when performing a Yagna assigned 4 gateways in two categories called Vanathvayam and Bharathvayam. Thindrivanam is beleived to be the southern gateway belonging to the former category. Seeing the angry state of the Perumal even in his Utsav form, Sage Markandeya prayed to him to take up a peaceful form and thus the Utsavamurthy (processional deity) is a calm looking Varadaraja Perumal.
