Varadaraja Perumal Gangapuram is an ancient and wonderful temple. The entrance is through a gate in the east and you enter the shrine of the lord from the south. There are excellent and unique carvings on the walls on both sides of the complete Sundaragandam from Ramayana, demanding a long time to go through to truly appreciate it. There are also depictions of Ekambareswarar, Kamatchi Pooja, Manuneedhi Chola, Shiva protecting and blessing an elephant. On the sides of the entrance to the Lord’s Sanctum are Ganesha and Muruga on either side. The Utsava Idol was stolen more than hundred years back and found in a tank in a nearby village called Peruvallur, thus there two Utsavars here. The Vahanaas for the Utsavs are extremely beautiful.
Vimaana – Punyakoti Vimaanam
