Kachabeswarar Kancheepuram is a large temple with a 5 tier Rajagopuram at the northern entrance. A large temple tank is inside and north of the sanctum sanctorum. The architecture and sculpture here belong to the Pallava period and requires special mention.

Thandialangaram, a 7th Century CE literature predating the Thevaram Hymns mentions this temple. Saint Arunagirinadar has sung the praise of Lord Muruga here.
Mahavishnu, after taking his Avatar of a Tortoise (Kacham) to help the Devas in churning the ocean in their quest for Amrut, created a spring here, bathed and worshiped the lord here and thus the name Kachabeswarar. Lord Shiva is also said to have performed the Ajaba dance in the form of Thiyagaraja here for him.
Kachabeswarar, Kancheepuram is in the West Raja Road and in the middle of town.
