Thiruvaleeswarar Nerumbur is an ancient temple which has dilapidated to a large extent. The sanctum sanctorum alone stands and is attended to by a priest who lives nearby. The original temple had a small 3 tiered entrance gopuram in the south which is now on the verge of collapse. The compound wall has completely disappeared. The sanctum niches are all empty except for a beautiful Ganesha idol and a small Durga idol both of which look like new additions. Thiruvaleeswarar Nerumbur is situated on the northern banks of the Palar River.

History

Thiruvaleeswarar Nerumbur has many stone inscriptions around the base of the outer wall of the Sanctum Sanctorum which, we learnt, belong to the Pallava Era. Some of the ornamental carvings around the sanctum resemble Vijayanagar style of architecture.
