Chennai, earlier Madras, with a history that goes back to only about 375 years may not look like an ideal place to look for ancient temples. But a simple look at its history will reveal to you that a lot of very old neighboring villages, including Mylapore and Thiruvotriyur among others, were all annexed gradually to the expanding City of Madras and the oldest temples in this district would date back more than 1500 years!
