Perunchadai Mahadevar Akkarai is a small and beautiful east-facing temple with a single prakaram. The location of this temple is beautiful with the large Parakkai Lake on the west and surrounded by coconut groves and other trees all around. The carvings above the sanctum niches are very fine works. The Nandi idol on the sanctum sanctorum wall, the outer walls of the sanctum sanctorum are all wonderful. The campus is covered with shade-providing trees. A group of volunteers conducts the rituals regularly at Perunchadai Mahadevar Akkarai. The lingam is said to have matted hair like carving behind and hence the name Perun Chadai (large lock of hair).
