Chidambareswarar Mettupatti is an east-facing temple with an entrance gate on the east side. The shrines and sanctum sanctorum are situated in a single spacious prakaram. A balipeedam and Nandi face the lord from the prakaram. The entire inner part of the temple is fully covered and includes the Mahamandapam, Ardhamandapam, and the Sanctum Sanctorum. There is another Nandi facing the main deity inside. The main deity is a small lingam. Standing in the Maha Mandapam you can see both the main deity and the south-facing goddess from the same spot. A minor River called Valaiyapatti River flows behind on the west side of Chidambareswarar Mettupatti and goes down south as Uppar River to join the Cauvery River.
