Kailasanadar Sevilimedu is a small west facing temple with an entrance gateway at the south. The temple is in a beautiful deep shady spot and time spend here can be very good for the mind and heart. The Lingam of the main deity is very large with 16 sides. There is a large Peepul tree under which a large number of different Naagar idols have been installed. To the left and right of the main sanctum are two shrines facing east with Vadakku (north) Kailsanadar and Therku (South) Kailasanadar. Both are large Lingams with 8 sides to them. A small, beautiful and well maintained temple tank is located to the north of the temple and around this are shrines for Vinayaka, Raghu and Kethu. The tank also has two wells at the bottom.
Holy Water (Theertham) – Raghu Kethu Theertham
Sacred Tree (Sthala Vriksham) – Arasa Maram (Peepul tree – Ficus relegiosa)
Kailasanadar Sevilimedu is an ancient temple but no historical information is available as of now. The Lingam was discovered covered in earth. This was one the last temples that was consecrated by Maha Periyava, the great saint of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam in 1989.
Raghu and Kethu (the ascending and descending nodes of the Moon) are believed to have worshiped the Lord here and this temple is considered important to seek their blessings.
Kailasanadar Sevilimedu is about 5.5 kilometers from the town center on the Vandavasi Road. At Sevilimedu just before turning left for the Lakshmi Narasimha Perumal temple take a right at 5 kilometers at the location marked and drive on to reach Kailasanadar Sevilimedu.
Kancheepuram has many restaurants and hotels. Ramas Cafe opposite the more well known Saravana Bhavan is a good place to eat.
