Irattaithaleeswarar Uthiramerur is a small but ancient temple in the middle of a busy locality. The temple can be entered from both east and north sides. The single Prakaram houses all the shrines and the sanctum. A Vinayaka idol found here is said to go back to the Pallava Era.

History

Irattaithaleeswarar Uthiramerur is an ancient temple going back to the period of Rajaraja Chola I. This temple was built by the people of the village. Along with this was built a Perumal Temple also and thus it was called Irandu (Two) Thaligal (Temples) and Irattai Thaligal (Twin Temples). The name of the lord is thus Irattai Thali Easwarar. Stone inscriptions belonging to Rajaraja and Rajendra are found here.
